What’s important after 14 years.

Had a good lunch today. Met two old friends at Charley’s Restaurant in Lynchburg, a place that we shared many a “One Great Chicken Sandwich” over the years. It was a meaningful lunch because we worked together for many years. We were called “the four horsemen”, the “Center For Youth Ministry” guys - Dave Adams, Dave Marston, Doug Randlett, and myself. Adams was in town for a visit, Marston has just moved back to Lynchburg. Randlett was out of town, but called in to our lunch. We’ve known each other for 30 years.

We served together, taught together, trained youth ministry students together. We traveled, laughed, argued, cried, and shared burdens together.

Its been 14 years since we all worked together. Each of our lives has changed dramatically. Now two of us are working together again, and three of us live in the same town.

Life is a river. The moment you step out of a job or a town, the river moves on without you. Even if you step back into the river years later, its not the same. YOU are not the same.

As we talked today, we realized what is and what is not important after 14 years have gone by.

What is NOT important:

where you live

your job

your salary

your house

What IS important:

good friends

loving our wives

loving our kids

loving and serving a faithful God.

Good lunch today.
