1 Aug 2008Sunday night I was able to witness an amazing event. Last year we began dreaming about how to engage our church in our community in a catalytic way. Sunday was the capstone event.
This past weekend 3000 people from 8 churches worked in 225 projects to serve the people of Paulding County Georgia. Widows, single moms, under-resourced families, and schools were served a generous helping of the love of God. Not in the name of a church or denomination - they served in the name of Jesus.
The real statement to the community was made on Sunday. They didn’t go to church Sunday morning - they were the church in people’s lives. They worked instead of having services. And the eight churches - over 5000 people -gathered in a Sam’s parking lot in the middle of town to sing praises to God in the evening.
I celebrated this profound moment of God’s people “getting it”, understanding His agenda. Blessings on the church of Paulding County!
For Ezra had set his heart to study the law of the LORD and to practice it, and to teach His statutes and ordinances in Israel

We did a similar thing at Gateway each year called “The Big Event”. (www.thebigeventva.com). We also did it on a Sunday morning.

It would start a fire in this country that the enemy could not put out. Jesus would be magnified like he was last weekend in Paulding County Georgia. That is what would happen if other churches chose to be the church that God has called them to be. How great was and is our God for what he did through His people and in His people.
