Christ followers or church members?

I am once again working at an older church, where many people have been members for years. God is doing a new work here, and our pastor has encouraged our team to help people focus again on what it means to be a Christ follower. I have this statement written across the top of my whiteboard, to keep me and those I meet with focused on the mission:
“Am I making church members or am I making Christ followers?”
Obviously, many church members ARE Christ followers - but it is possible to be one without being the other. Jesus dealt with this in His ministry. We have the same challenge today. I would say the greatest unreached people group in America is church members. This is how I see the difference between this group and Christ followers…
- church members are “there every time the doors are open” - Christ followers’ hearts are open every time they are there.
- church members are always running in several directions - Christ followers are always walking on one path.
- church members are loyal to church and denomination first - Christ followers are loyal to the King.
- church members ask “how can i build our church?” - Christ followers ask “how can i build His kingdom?”
- church members spend their time in multiple Bible studies - Christ followers spend their time allowing the Bible to fill and shape them
- church members focus on “knowing” and “doing” - Christ followers focus on “being”
- church members are consumers of church culture and activities - Christ followers are creators of ministry
- church members are most concerned about being spiritually fed - Christ followers are most concerned with spiritually feeding the lost
- church members come to the pastors with their list of concerns and church problems - Christ followers come to offer solutions and ideas.
- some church members will be surprised to be turned away from heaven’s door - all Christ followers will humbly enter heaven’s door.

I would like for you to take this blog a little farther. Would you please address what this looks like in teaching, programs, technology, reading, doing, etc… What does the wisdom that George asks for look like?
Not that you have a ton of extra time on your hands to hold mine!
Grace and Peace my friend.
